IMAGE Studios is excited to announce that on November 3, 2022, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed Senate Bill 1287 (SB 1287) into law, which sets new regulations for the floor space of licensed salons in the state. According to the new law, a salon operated by one licensed cosmetologist must have a minimum working area of 120 square feet with a minimum width of 10 feet. Additionally, for each additional cosmetologist working in the salon, an additional 60 square feet of space is required.
Previously, a law passed on May 3, 1933, commonly referred to as the “Cosmetology Law,” had been in effect in Pennsylvania. This law mandated that salon facilities in the state must have a minimum of 180 square feet of space, with an additional 60 square feet required for each additional cosmetologist. These square footage requirements made it challenging for salon suites to operate in the state, as they had to be built larger than necessary, increasing the cost of opening new locations and meeting the surging demand for salon suites.
